An important step towards green transformation, RHI Magnesita will make the CO2 the footprints of its approximately 200,000 products are transparent and comparable.

“Competitiveness, sustainability and transparency are increasingly linked, and valid data is essential to lay the foundation for sustainable decision-making. With lots of CO2 transparency for all our products, RHI Magnesita sets new standards for the refractory industry and responds to customer needs: suitable sustainable solutions can now be easily identified and included in product circles and sustainability reports”, explains the CSO Gustavo Franco.

All greenhouse gases from “cradle to door”

From now on, all RHI Magnesita datasheets include an “Environmental Indicators” field in which CO2 the equivalent emission of one metric ton of the product is listed. The method for calculating these indicators is developed and constantly supervised by external experts according to the principles of ISO standards. All greenhouse gases “from cradle to gate”, from the extraction of raw materials to production, including packaging and the gate are taken into account in these CO2 footprint calculations.

“This project marks an important step towards a green transformation. As such, one of the main objectives of RHI Magnesita is to significantly reduce emissions over the next few decades, with the long-term goal of achieving net zero operations in all areas of the company. It is clear that a solid basis for sustainable decisions and developments can only be achieved by creating a valid audited database”, adds Gustavo Franco.
