WARREN – Hundreds of coats, sweaters and scarves donated by Berk Enterprises were distributed to 13 organizations in the area during an event at the Warren Jefferson PK-8 School in partnership with Warren Rotary.

About 900 coats, 700 scarves and hundreds of sweaters and underwear were stacked in the gymnasium on Tuesday in Jefferson as school administrators worked to sort items into boxes for groups including the Warren Family Mission, the Community Volunteer Council, the Niles City Schools, the rescue mission. and the Salvation Army.

It was the second year of the event, according to Jefferson PK-8 Special Education Supervisor Mesa Morlan, who was leading the cast.

Campus manager Carrie Boyer said Jefferson was chosen for distribution because of his proximity to most organizations and the ease of access for getting items in and out of the building. She said the importance of the event was to support families during the cold winter.

“It doesn’t sound like much, but being cold is difficult” said Boyer. She added that it’s nice to have new clothes, especially clothes that are, “not essential” but make you feel good like the dress sweaters that were donated.
