As part of Michigan-based Meijer Foods’ announcement to donate $ 3 million to local nonprofits, Sussex Meijer recently surprised Sussex Outreach Services with a donation of $ 10,000.
Members of the local Meijer team were moved after learning how many services Sussex Outreach Services provide to the community, according to a press release. SOS is a local non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, and household items, while providing emergency assistance, access to resources, and other outreach activities.
“Although we are overwhelmed by Meijer’s generosity, they have been so kind to us throughout the year, and we are especially touched by this very generous donation. At holiday time, we are honored that the employees and Meijer’s local staff and management chose SOS for this fantastic donation. We are very touched and honored, “said Jennifer Waltz, Executive Director of SOS.
Meijer announced on Nov. 30 that it plans to donate nearly $ 3 million to the people and communities it serves in the Midwest.
Each store and distribution center could award $ 10,000 to one local nonprofit or $ 5,000 each to two nonprofits.
“At Meijer, we care about the communities we serve and follow a simple philosophy defined by our founders: take care of our customers, our team members and the community and all will take care of you, like family,” said said Rick Keyes, President and CEO of Meijer in the press release. “Our team members play a crucial role in this process, so as we show our support this holiday season, we wanted to invite them to play a bigger role in our culture of giving. “
This fall, members of the Meijer team formed a diverse committee at each store and distribution center to nominate one or two local nonprofits for donation, according to the press release.
