Walmart will host a hiring event on Tuesday at its distribution center just east of Reno-Sparks in response to increased sales from its online and physical operations.
The retail giant is looking to hire 40 workers to fill orders for its grocery distribution operation. Hourly wages start at $ 20.60 and can go up to $ 26.60 depending on the position, shift and schedule. Positions are full time and include health benefits and 401 (k).
Walmart is hiring in response to strong sales results, said Tim Cooper, senior vice president of the U.S. supply chain at Walmart.
“Our grocery distribution centers are essential to ensuring that our local stores have what our customers need,” said Cooper.

Walmart posted a record total revenue of $ 152.1 billion for its global operations in the fourth quarter, according to its latest financial report. Annual revenue for fiscal 2021 was nearly $ 560 billion, up 6.7% from $ 524 billion year-over-year.
E-commerce continues to be a strong growth area for Walmart, which has seen its e-commerce sales jump 79% in the United States.
“Now is the time to be even more aggressive because of the opportunity we see ahead of us,” said Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart.
The hiring event will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 29 at the Walmart distribution center at 2155 USA Pkwy., McCarran, approximately 24 miles east of Reno. Qualified candidates could be hired locally, according to Walmart. Applications can also be submitted online at careers.walmart.com.
